Topic Summary:
District chilled water systems are integral parts of large campus type facilities. In these traditional district systems, central chiller plants generate chilled water which is distributed out to various buildings via a central pumping systems.  The various buildings can have dedicated pumps and/or heat exchangers to control chilled water flow/temperature at each building.  With many buildings connected to the one central plant, there can many variables that affect chilled water flow, pressure, and temperature in the system. Our presentation will discuss the issues with the standard chilled water pumping and temperature control of district chilled water distribution systems and how modifications to this control can be accomplished to provide energy savings and improved system control. The presentation will include a case study of the Royal Alexandra Hospital chilled water system modifications.
