October Meeting

Our first meeting of the year was held on October 18th at the German Canadian Cultural Centre. While enjoying great food and drink we were able to listen to Jack Carver, EIT from Price Industries present to us about Hospital Operating Room design. This presentation covered the challenges of modern operating room design, identifying proper diffuser selection and layouts for these spaces, reviewed code requirements, and explored the cost implications and benefits of integrated ceiling systems.

November Meeting

November’s chapter meeting was our first lunch meeting of the year. Hosted at the U of A University Club (formerly The Faculty Club) on November 22. Brad Lowe from the Masters Group presented on the concept of Thermal Stratification. The focus was on how addressing thermal stratification can significantly increase a building’s energy efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint.

December Meeting

ASHRAE NAC’s annual holiday luncheon was again held at the Wyndham Edmonton Hotel & Conference Centre on Friday, December 15. As in past years, all proceeds raised were donated to the Christmas Bureau. Lisa Dayanandan from the Christmas Bureau spoke on the impact the Christmas Bureau has on families in the Edmonton area.

The event included a raffle for door prizes donate by various company members of ASHRAE NAC.

January Meeting

The first meeting of 2024 was held on January 17 at MKT Beer Market. As this was our annual Students Night, we presented our 2023-2024 ASHRAE NAC Scholarship. The winner this year was Kara Bourque from the U of A. We had a record number of student attendees at the event as well as a record number of applications for the scholarship. Stephanie Carter of Eco-Ammo was our guest speaker, were through a “fireside” chat we learnt more about the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) project management approach.
